Last months’ contests was one of the best ones ever- so many great stories!  Read through the comments here, it’s a great read!

This month is Responsible Dog Ownership month, and our contest is about agility dog ownership!

    1. What breed(s) of dog do you have?
    2. Where’d you get them? A breeder, a rescue, they found you?
    3. How much time do you spend training them?
    4. If you could only have one obstacle to work with, what would it be?

You could win a treat and ball bag, perfect for walks, agility, or working inside. Keep your treats secure, and your pockets clean!

The winner will be chosen via random number generator on or around October 1st, and announced/emailed on or around the same.

    How to enter this contest:

If you have never done so before, you must first register your email address on this blog.  We will then notify you if you are a winner of this contest.  You only need to do this once, and you will be good for all future monthly contests (and get priority notification of when they occur)!

    Meet Quick!

Quick is a year old this month, and as promised, we’re ready to start agility! Our first class was on Monday and we had a blast! I’ll be blogging about it weekly, and sharing our journey with all of you.

It was a little difficult to explain that he doesn’t like having his collar grabbed from behind (my theory is that it pulls his hair and hurts) and that grabbing from the front or by the leash is just fine. We worked a little on shadow handling and surprised our instructor who thought that surely my obedience-trained dog wouldn’t be okay with the right side handling. He did fine with it, and was a very good boy. I had some difficulty with treating him quickly enough! I lack finger coordination I guess!

I was a little upset by another student, though.  Their pup had no manners to speak of! He bounced around on the end of his leash, barking shrilly, and his owner seemed oblivious as they texted through the lesson. I’m wondering how that’s going to work out in the upcoming weeks!

Quick seemed to enjoy the restrained recalls more than anything else. He did his ‘bucking bronco’ trick where he kicks up his back legs in glee as he runs after me.

What advice do you wish you’d heard when you started doing agility?

    Check out next week!

Event Vent…. What is your biggest complaint about how things are done at agility trials?

What could you do to change that or influence it?

And the second contest question is- what do you think is your dog’s favorite part?

The prize this month is an clix whizzclick!  This thing is awesome! It’s a whistle and clicker in one unit, and comes with training instructions for both tools.

The winner will be picked by a random number generator on May 29th and announced later.

    How to enter this contest:

    1. If you have never done so before, you must first register your email address on this blog.  We will then notify you if you are a winner of this contest.  You only need to do this once, and you will be good for all future monthly contests (and get priority notification of when they occur)!

April is here, showers and tricks and all! Tell us about the best trick your dog has ever pulled (trained, or untrained) for a chance to win an aqua hurdle in the correct size for your dog (8”, 16”, or 24”).

Agility is rarely called off for rain (as anyone who watched or attended the AKC Invitational 2009 knows), and dogs need to learn how to work in mud, rain, and wet obstacles. Practice so you’re not caught flat-footed!  All Affordable Agilitys’ water obstacles are great for getting your dog used to rain-training without the rain!

The winner will be selected by a random number generator, and notified via email (providing you are a registered user here).   Deadline is  April 23rd.  Good luck and have fun!
